This option provides calibration options for a cantilever. Accurate force measurements require an accurate calibration of cantilever deflection sensitivity and spring constant. The nominal spring constant of a cantilever is usually inaccurate by a factor of 2 or more. Consequently, the deflection sensitivity and the spring constant of a cantilever have to be calibrated for each cantilever for accurate force measurements.
To calibrate the deflection sensitivity the calibration option activates a wizard that easily guides you through this calibration step. The spring constant is evaluated from an amplitude – frequency spectrum using the Sader method. The spectrum can be obtained from either monitoring the thermal noise of the cantilever or a frequency sweep. Selection of a cantilever from an internal software list automatically provides information on the cantilever, like the frequency range of the resonance frequency and the topview dimensions.
